Seamless protection for engines, transmissions and other assemblies
In the dispensing and potting technological field, applying liquid seals in the form of a bead is called "sealing". Applied to components such as housings or ECUs, the applied sealants act as a barrier against outside influences while at the same time functioning as a bonding agent when using special adhesive materials.
During sealing, high-viscosity sealant in bead form is applied to a workpiece. This application is usually done automatically along a contour specified in advance. The process is used to protect sensitive components or electronics from dust, moisture, corrosive media or temperature-related influences. In industrial manufacturing liquid seals are frequently used as FIPGs ("formed in-place gaskets"). For this purpose the not yet cured liquid seal is set into the workpiece, which is then further processed. During the CIPG procedure ("cured in-place gasket"), further processing takes place only after the sealant has cured.

advantages and applications
Liquid seals are frequently used in lighting engineering, the electrical and electronics industry and the electromobility sector. In the automotive industry they are used for such purposes as sealing enclosures, engines, gearboxes and sensors. In this case, however, the focus increasingly shifts from traditional sealing to sealing with an additional adhesive bonding function.
The number of possible areas of application in the industry are continually growing. There are many reasons for this. Liquid seals offer users a high degree of flexibility in the shaping of the seal bead. In addition, depending on the system, it is also possible to switch to a different sealing material. The costs for storage and the time required for installation of solid seals such as stamped pads, o-rings or sealing cords have also been eliminated. Moreover, innovative recipes for liquid seals facilitate among other things improved performance, such as better temperature resistance or better compatibility with fuels and lubricants.
Superior solutions for complex geometries
When dispensing liquid seals, applying the material precisely and with repeatable accuracy along the intended seal contour is of particular importance. Scheugenpflug offers a wide range of CNC-capable dispensing and potting cells that can be flexibly adapted to the existing production conditions.
- The CNCell is a powerful multifunctional cell specifically designed for medium to large production quantities. Thanks to the consistent standardization of basic modules, the dispensing cell’s functions, dimensions and areas of application can be flexibly adapted to the needs of the user.
- The Scheugenpflug ProcessModule is specifically tailored to the requirements of integration and automation specialists. Through "plug & produce", it can be quickly and safely integrated into new or existing production cells or lines. It is designed so that – independent of the rest of the machine – all parameters and processes related to bonding and dispensing are optimally adjusted to each other and the users can therefore concentrate on their own core areas of expertise.
- Ideally suited for sealing applications, the Scheugenpflug gear pump dispensers are optimized for precise, continuous material application in bead form. The Dos GP systems also work quickly and precisely on complex workpiece geometries and can be additionally equipped with a special swivel needle if necessary.
TIP: Good adhesion to the relevant substrate is required for durability and effective performance of the applied liquid seal. If the material loses its adhesion, dirt and moisture can make their way into the workpiece. Using appropriate plasma processes before applying the sealant can effectively prevent a separation of the seal from the workpiece.
